R+D+i

Due to the researcher character of the Metanogenia´s team we dedicate a large amount of resources to R+D+i in the treatment of agroindustrial waste, in order to offer customized solutions for each client.

Some of the innovations developed by Metanogenia are:

  • Biomethanization of agroindustrial waste in the proportions in which are generated by the agrifood industry, in order to solve the problem of each client. Some of the waste that has been optimized are:
  • Tomato processing industry waste. Tomato industry is one of the largest industries in Extremadura, their waste has a high energy potential.
  • Meat industry waste. The management of slaughterhouse waste is one of the main operating costs of this sector. Environmental legislation and energy costs make these projects as an attractive business for the slaughterhouse that make the investment. Currently Metanogenia is developing the project of what will be the first anaerobic digestion plant for an Iberian pig slaughterhouse in Extremadura.
  • Waste from the cheese industry. Wheat and wheat are the problems of the cheese industries. Metanogenic has obtained a stable biomethanization, with high yield of biogas for two residues, dimensioning profitable and viable treatment plants.
  • Use of energy crops such as tobacco for the generation of biogas. A real alternative to the use of tobacco is biomethanization. Achieving to reduce costs of production of the tobacco obtaining biogas for the drying of the own plant is viable.
  • Biomethanization of waste from the mill industry. Waste from the extraction of olive oil has always been an uncomfortable problem for the sector's entrepreneurs. They are byproducts with difficult and expensive treatment of elimination, reason why it is determinant to develop a procedure, technically and economically viable, for its management and valorization.

    Biomethanization has always been an option but, due to the large amount of biorreaction inhibitors that are present in these residues, it has been discarded as a decontamination treatment.
    From Metanogenia, we have been studying the optimization of the treatment of these residues by means of this technology for 4 years, obtaining results never before obtained, incorporating pre-treatments that assure the continuity of the reaction and the economic viability of the plant. Nevertheless we continue developing innovations that obtain better results
  • Metanogenics is developing a protocol to produce starters and stabilizers of the microbiological reaction, the BIOSTARTERS.
    BIOSTARTERS are high-performance sludge, achieved by isolating and conserving bacterial families that maximize biogas production on an industrial scale and counteract the inhibitory effects of some wastes.
